What do you need to perfect your office look this spring? One thing’s for sure, you’re not going to be rolling in with a coat, scarf, gloves and hat like we’ve been doing for what seems like ages. See you later, layers. Peace out, parkas. You’re dead to us (until next winter anyway). It’s spring and suits are the new outerwear.
It’s time we shook off the winter blues and replaced them with some spring blues …and coppers and khakis and light grays. Here’s what you’ll need to pull it off.
Every man ought to have one suit that he can wear through the warmer months without breaking a sweat. When it comes to cooler suiting fabrics, linen is the undisputed champion. But while a linen suit that’s covered in wrinkles may keep you cool, it doesn’t exactly look cool. Enter the wool/linen blend, like this Delancey Blue. You get the drape of wool with the breathability of linen.
Spring is when the color comes back to the landscape. Even the concrete jungle starts to get a little color as urban parks become sanctuaries of greenery and farmer’s markets start popping up and enticing passersby with their colorful fruits and vegetables. You too can entice passersby with little touches of strong colors in your accessories and even in your suit.
Put a little spring in your step, literally. It’s not quite summer yet, so unless you live in the tropics, socks are probably still on the menu. Show them off with these lower vamp cousins of your cap-toes and brogues.
It’s no secret that we love wool ties when the temps are low. But when spring arrives we go back to lighter weight silks. For spring, go a little bolder with higher contrast patterns like this black and white dotted tie that pulls out the hints of white in the suit. Add visual interest and a touch of elegance to a solid with woven silk as we’ve done here.
Nothing says springtime like flowers. Floral prints can make some guys a little uncomfortable, though. Keep your tough guy persona intact by leaving behind the frilly colors and wearing your flowers in black-and-white like we’ve done with this pocket square. Or, you can take your flower game up a notch and slip a lapel flower on. Instead of running a tab at your local florist, try a fabric one like this Ivory Spray Rose from Fort Belvedere.
With these five essentials, bringing your A-game to the office this spring will be easy. Here’s the skinny on all the pieces we featured:
